Legacy - Molly Cochran

Date Released:  December 20th 2011
Publisher: Simon & Schuster/Paula Wiseman Books
Pages: 432 pages
Date Read: December 17th 2011
Format: E-book
Source: Simon & Schuster Galley Grab
Summary:

When her widowed father dumps 16-year-old Katy Jessevar in a boarding school in Whitfield, Massachusetts, she has no idea that fate has just opened the door to both her future and her past. Nearly everyone in Whitfield is a witch, as is Katy herself, although she has struggled all her life to hide her unusual talents. Stuck at a boarding school where her fellow studens seem to despise her, Katy soon discovers that Whitfield is the place where her mother committed suicide under mysterious circumstances when Katy was just a small child. With dark forces converging on Whitfield, it’s up to Katy to unravel her family’s many secrets to save the boy she loves and the town itself from destruction.

My Review:

Ummm.... how to review this book?... hmmm... well, the summary was interesting but once you start reading it, it turns out to be a Fail.

Not so much that I didn't like it, but there were a few situations that were just instant turn-off. Example: Katy - the main character - arrives to a new school, nobody talks to her and basically they want to steer clear from her, and she just lets it be. But then there's the King of the Jerks, meet Peter. who treats her like crap and actually, ACTUALLY SHOVES HER ACROSS THE ROOM, and the next day he's all sweet and nice [He has a serious bipolar disorder] and she's all 'Oh My God I Love Him. I know he's the one. I just know.' WHAT?!!? Have a bit of dignity! if a guy treats you like that you do NOT go crawling after him. Period.

I would also find myself flipping through the pages, just skipping parts here and there, it really never caught my attention. I really wish it had been more, I wanted to like it, the summary was promising. I think it could've had a better development. There was action, romance, mystery... but it never got to me. Not once. it was just like watching a movie in mute. I tried, but the relationship between me and this book was not good.

In all honestly - and sadness - I do not recommend this book :/

Books Are Vital
Well she's this blog author. She's 19 going on 50. No, really; she's the kind of girl that when she finally gets a day off she likes to stay at home and read for pleasure, sometimes she even knits and she has even...
listened to Celine Dion a few times while doing all this.

But now, Melannie is older and wiser and has stopped putting herself through dangerous situations.
NOT REALLY. She actually decided to apply for med school and got in. She's about to start her third year there and has never been happier. When naive strangers have the nerve to ask Melannie how is it possible that she has time to read FOR PLEASURE while also being in Med School, she always answers with the same sentence: BOOKS ARE VITAL. You can't go on everyday without them, so you better find time for them. So if you ever happen to see her in person, don't be scared of the huge purpuish bags under her
blod-shot eyes, she probably comes from an all-night date...
with her 1000-something pages med books.
The Interview :D!

1.-In Between Writing and Reading what do you like to do?
What I do is study. A lot. However, what I would like to do is watch movies all the time. I love movies as much as books. Wait, or maybe shopping!
or book/movie shopping!, OH HEAVEN.

2. Convince me to join your blog twitter style. 140 Characters or less. GO! *uses the force* You will join my blog because you agree about books being vital to someone's health. And you like fun reviews with pics!

3.- A Color. A Candy. A Car.
Blue, Twizzlers, smart for two.

4.-You are in Med School, you run a book blog, and your policy is Books Are Vital. You still have a life right?
Life? what is that?
I'm not going to lie, I don't go out much, I have to study a lot to keep up with my classes, and when I have time, I'm usually tired and the only thing I want is to read in bed or take a nap. There's also the thing that a lot of my friends are from med school too, so they're in the same position. But it's not so bad, it will have its rewards. I hope. Let's be possitive.

5.- If you could prescribe one book for the whole world, which one would it be?
For a healthy state of mind and illness-free body I would advice you to read...
I don't know, whatever you feel like reading. Don't be ashamed if you like romance novels, magazines or Don Quixote. Books Are Vital, remember?. ;)

6.- Now the Holiday Question: if you could create a Book Related Holiday, what would you call it and what would we do?
Mmm, this is a difficult one. Let's call it "Huntatonofbooks" and we will all have to buy books and then one person will hide them in our backyards then everyone else will have to look for them and read them that same day, whoever completes the task gets a free blizzard from Dairy Queen.

[In Between Note: Sign Me Up O.O]

7.- and now a detailed description of your Blog :)
My blog likes to wear gifs and other fun stuff, although it is never fully dressed, if you know what I mean. My blog only allows me to publish reviews for YA books because it cannot stomach something else. It also likes pictures, so I post a lot of them.

Between Updates

 What I'm Reading:

So fat it's not bad. Good actually, except that I wish Katie - main character - would have more dignity. If a guy treats you like crap and shoves you across the room you don't go swooning after him! Seriously, that guy - Peter - is Bipolar. Period! *sigh* we'll see how it goes later....

I'm Loving the Writing style! I thought it was going to be impossible to read, but no, in fact it is quite beautiful and simple, the story is reeeally getting under my skin :)

Ripple - Mandy Hubbard

Date Released: July 21st 2011
Publisher: Razorbill/Penguin
Pages: 260 pages
Date Read: October 29, 2011
Format: Hardcover
Source: Amazon
Summary:

Lexi is cursed with a dark secret. Each day she goes to school like a normal teenager, and each night she must swim, or the pain will be unbearable. She is a siren - a deadly mermaid destined to lure men to their watery deaths. After a terrible tragedy, Lexi shut herself off from the world, vowing to protect the ones she loves. But she soon finds herself caught between a new boy at school who may have the power to melt her icy exterior, and a handsome water spirit who says he can break Lexi's curse if she gives up everything else. Lexi is faced with the hardest decision she's ever had to make: the life she's always longed for - or the love she can't live without?

My Review:

I had very high expectations for Ripple, the cover is gorgeous and it's a great storyline, and I am very happy to say it did not let me down :)

Last Year - or at least I think it was last year... - I read You Wish also by Mandy Hubbard, the story was great. The only problem? I didn't like the main character. yeah, not so good. Luckily this was not the case with Ripple, I liked Lexi a lot.

Lexi is cursed, she's draw to water and she sings, and her singing kills. She falls in Love, but then she figures out a way to get rid of her curse. the price? give up her Love. so what will she choose?

I have no idea if I'm just naive but, wow, I was shocked so many times during the book! her decisions, what everything turned out to be, what a certain someone turned out to be, and the ending. wow, the ending. didn't saw that one coming. Not. At. All.

and aside from the shocking part in the ending it was also realistic. I really liked the last chapter [thirty-three] I think it was the perfect finale for the book.

Ripple is the first mermaid book I read and It most definitely won't be my last. Mandy Hubbard created an original storyline with intriguing characters and with lots of surprises around the corner. If you haven't read a book by Mandy Hubbard before, you must. It won't disappoint.

Paper Cuts

The Interview :D!

1.-In Between Writing and Reading what do you like to do?
Well I'm a full time student, so I don't have much free time! Yet, when I manage to slip a few moments of free time in, I like to hang out with my friends and play around on my laptop! Or talk to my brother! I spend a lot of time doing that!

2. Convince me to join your blog twitter style. 140 Characters or less. GO!
You want fun books to read? A teenagers perspective on the latest and greatest books all here in one little amazingly amazing pile!

3. A Song. A Series.
Song: American Girl by Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers
Series: Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
A movie: The Hunger Games ;) Does that count??
Truthfully: Mulan :)

4.-The Upcoming Release You are most exited about
Definitly City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare...
Wait scratch that. Anything by Cassandra Clare, her books get under my skin with those cliff hangers! [Agreed!!!]

5.-How did you came up with the title of you Blog?
I was in Language Arts with my co-blogger when we started brainstorming ideas. I came up with Anne and Sam's blog, or D&G blog, and Anne countered with Pages, (Something that actually had to do with books!) I really wanted Glowing Ponies, but that didn't happen! We eventually settled on Paper Cuts, which was Anne's idea!

6.- Best Book of 2011?
DIVERGENT~ By Veronica Roth!

7.-and The Holiday Question! if you could create a new Holiday what would you name it and what would we do :)?
The Hanukkah Horror! It would be about you only have the eight day's of Hanukkah to save someone's life and when the candles ran out what would happen!
Muhaha! I'm Jewish and it took me about 5 seconds to think of that.. Now I'm gonna go write that! :)

8.- and now a detailed description of your blog ;)
Paper Cut's is a review blog for Young Adult Fiction books. Anne and I love all kinds of books and have an intense passion for books, when together all we talk about is books! You can just read our reviews and hopefully my annoying chatter will brighten your day! Since my reviews are a little lengthy! :) And you can see Anne's bluntness/ to the pointness, that we all love!!

Thanks for allowing me to do this! Sorry if its a little long! If you read it all I will love you forever!!! :) >

There You'll Find Me - Jenny B. Jones

Date Released: October 4th 2011
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Pages: 320 pages
Date Read: November 13 2011
Format: e-book
Source: Publisher via NetGalley
Summary:

In a small cottage house in rural Ireland, Finley discovers she can no longer outrun the past.

When Finley travels to Ireland as a foreign exchange student, she hopes to create a new identity and get some answers from the God who took her brother away and seems to have left her high and dry.

But from the moment she boards the plane and sits by Beckett Rush, teen star of the hottest vampire flicks, nothing goes according to Finley's plan.

When she gets too close to Beckett, a classmate goes on a mission to make sure Finley packs her bags, departs Ireland-and leaves Beckett alone.

Finley feels the pressure all around. As things start to fall apart, she begins to rely on a not-so-healthy method of taking control of her life.

Finley tries to balance it all-disasters on the set of Beckett's new movie, the demands of school, and her growing romance with one actor who is not what he seems. Yet Finley is also not who she portrays to Beckett and her friends.

For the first time in her life, Finley must get honest with herself to get right with God.

My Review:

There You'll Find Me is a story about grief, change, self-discovery and falling in love in the process.

Finley has been dealing with a lot during the past two years, her brother’s death, depression and a few bad turns, so she decides to take trip to Ireland in hopes of finding peace, calm and completing her musical piece for an upcoming audition. And what does she find instead? An arrogant actor [this one is before the plane arrives at Ireland], a bully and a bitter old granny; add a new family and best friend to the mix.

Obviously her peaceful and calming trip doesn’t turn out to be so relaxing, and soon Finley finds herself going the wrong way again, giving in to the pain that lives inside her and that she so desperately tries to deny, but there’s a boy that refuses to leave her, a lady that needs her help and some things she needs to find.

The story was beautiful, and even though it circled around religion – I am not a fan of religion in books – It didn’t bother me, I really do think it was, somehow, ‘essential’ to the story.

I had my Laugh Out Loud moments, parts where I nearly cry and parts in which all I wanted was to clap [is that weird?] Standing Ovation for There You’ll Find Me, and also for Jenny B. Jones writing style! It was poetic!

Big Thanks to Netgally for letting me access this book :D!

Open For Business :)

Since I have my life back I'll be accepting book request this month, January and until February :)

of course the open for Business thing is just a saying, 'cause this is just for fun and not a job or anything, which brings me to my next point:

Inspired by The Story Siren and a few events that happened the last few weeks I am changing my review policy and am being VERY clear with what I accept and I don't.

so authors, he's some important info:

Want me to read your book?
If I accept your review request keep in mind that I hold every right to read, or not your book. I do this for Free, because it's Fun -usually- and it is almost a 100% probable that I'll read your book if I accept it. But it is my choice.

No harassing or bashing my name if I don't want to accept a review request [yup, happened.]

Read my Review Policy.
While I was in school I had a really clear note that said in Big Bold Letter: Not Accepting Review Request. you know how many review request I got? More that Twenty. Are. You. Kidding. Me? so much for checking my review policy.

So do us both a favor and read it! I know it may seem long, but it is veeeery important that you do! please? pretty pretty please?

Know My Reviews
I don't analyze in detail a book, or tell the story line all over again. I give My PERSONAL opinion what I thought about the book. so If you're looking for a reviewer that makes deep analyze, from characters to story to cover and such, I am not her. Read a few of my reviews, see if you like my style and then shoot me a message.

Fake Flatter? Seriously?
I Love Love Loooove it when someone says they enjoy my blog! but sometimes you can just tell it's completely FAKE.

You already now that the message they are sending you is like: I love [your blog name here] yada yada yada. worse, when it says something like: "I find your blog very informative and it has definitely changed my lifestyle and I'm more happy." I mean, whaaaaat? when the heck did my blog turned out to be inspirational and managed Feng-shui?

[Copy-Paste from The Story Siren] "Don't Bride Me
Another thing that is an instant turn off.

“I’ll send you a copy of my book, if you promise me a review.”
“I’ll send you a $20 amazon gift card if you’ll post a review of my book.”

I’ve received variations of those two statements. I find that very insulting."

It really is insulting. I support Kristy on this 100%. on everything really. she's amazing.

I think that's all, but yeah, read the policy, then message me.

I'm baaaaaaack :)

After surviving the most complicated couple of weeks, I can finally and proudly say that I survived my first semester in college with decent grades :D! Yesterday I did my last exam and even though this first semester was great and just can't express how amazing it is that it's OVER. I mean, Thank God! I thought the stress wasn't going to end xD made awesome friends, including an awesome teacher [Happy Birthday by the way Ivan]

Interesting things that happened this past weeks:

-American Horror Story is by far the Best series I have ever seen. it has messed with my head badly.
-Reading while in exams is nearly impossible without your mind turning into scrambled egg.
-Confirmed I cannot cook. Period.
-That I am addicted to Tumblr.
-That your room needs to be clean. seriously, it drove me mad seeing my room a mess while studying. nice and clean now :3
-and that sleeping, in college, in finals is a luxury. Oh and the bags under my eyes are slowly healing.

I'm back to reviewing starting next week along with sleeping x) And the cute cat above? Mine :D she's 2 months old and she's sooo soooo soooo cute! meet Luna.

Random and Booky.

Meet The Blogger:

I'm 14 years-old. I know Hindi, Urdu, English, and can read Arabic. I am learning Spanish. I am an Ahmadi Muslim. I love to read, listen to music and hanging out with friends.

The Interview :D!

1.-In Between Writing and Reading what do you like to do?
Would it be wrong if I said reading? Because reading is basically my life. Other than that, I'm always listening to music. I love to text my bffl Cora, watch movies, go on goodreads and buy books. Though that's a rarity because my mom tells me to just go to the library. I love talking, I talk a lot, mainly it's rambling and no one listens. Lol.

2. Convince me to join your blog twitter style. 140 Characters or less. GO!
Need a blog that's booky but random and fun. Random and Booky is where you need to be.

3. A Candy. A Pastry. A Restaurant.
Snickers. Chocolate Cake. Chili's.

4.-The 2012 Release you are most exited about?
The Hunger Games movie!!!!!!!!!!! Big fan! Love the trailers. Need to see it! It seems EPIC! ^^

5.- Tell us something Random :P
When I'm bored I search random things online. For instance: Did you know Suzanne Collins lives in CT. ((like me!)) =P

6.- Your favorite book of 2011?
Divergent by Veronica Roth, The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan and The Lost Stories by John Flanagan. I can't pick between the three. =)

7.-and now the Holiday Question: if you could create a new Holiday that was Book Related, what would you call it and what would we do?
Bookarade! First off we get the day off. We'd all dress up as our favorite book characters and have floats for every awesome book! ^^

8.- and now a detailed description of your blog ;)
Random and Booky is a place where I like to review books and sometimes movies. I post my current favorite songs. I created 3 memes and I just started another one that's is kind of like a blogger lift. ((You started a trend Jude. lol)) It's random because sometimes I'll post random things on it. I like to show as much of my personality on my blog as possible, because in a way it's an extension of me. This is my motto about like I post at the end of most of my posts: Dream Live Discover. Mainly because that's what life is all about! Yeah that's basically it! =D

Thanks For Being part of Blogger Lift! :)
